Iron Man Opens TODAY; Clips from the Set

April 30, 2008

http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/5579/billboardon0ks9.jpg

First of all, the third and final part of Cinemabuzz, Face Rockery, and Comicology’s list of The Fifteen Best Comic Book Movies of All Time is now online! And you can read it by clicking here.

And in case you missed it, here are Part One and Part Two of our List.

Now, onto Iron Man. It opens in Philippine theaters today, and Comicology and myself were invited to tonight’s block screening at Glorietta by Solar Entertainment and ETC. So we’ll have those spoiler-free reviews up by tomorrow.

I’m kind of in a hurry because I need to get a wax (it’s my pre-movie-watchnig habit okay), so I’ll simply be treating you to a couple of clips from the making of Iron Man.

Jon Favreau, the director, tours the set on his Segway in these two videos, so that’s bound to be awesome.

The Dark Knight Trailer! Okay!

April 29, 2008

So apparently, the last viral campaign by The Dark Knight didn’t simply result in an announcement as to when the trailer will premiere (this Sunday). It’s just that the online participants were led to the Happy Trails site where it mentioned the release of the new trailer.

On the other hand, their partners on the ground were instructed to enter a particular cinema in their respective cities, where they were treated to the trailer, and one fan managed to snag a video. Grab it while you can:

This is definitely the one which was also shown at the New York Comic Con two weekends ago, as described here.

Check back on Sunday or Monday, as we’ll definitely bring you the official trailer when it’s released.

Thanks to thegreatest for the heads up.

Even More New Dark Knight Posters, Trailer to Debut On Sunday, I Weep.

Before anything else, Part Two of Cinemabuzz, Face Rockery, and Comicology’s list of The Fifteen Best Comic Book Movies of All Time is now online! And you can read it by clicking here.

And in case you missed it, here’s Part One of our List.

Anyway, here’s the latest update from the slew of online games by The Joker (kayfabe, of course) on his website Why So Serious?

Much to the chagrin of nerdier people who actually took the time to participate in intricate viral campaigns than a guy who simply chooses to write about it, the new trailer for The Dark Knight apparently wouldn’t be debuting until Sunday. Volunteers were asked to do meet up in several cities to (I suppose) perform certain tasks which (I hope) involved killing hobos with a hammer.

After all the hullabaloo, they were led to this portion of the website, which teases the debut of a new trailer this coming Sunday.

In other Dark Knight news, Filmschoolrejects, Omelete, and The Bad and The Ugly have scored a barrage of new posters for the movie, though I seriously doubt the legitimacy of these.

They go from "That’s kind of cool but isn’t that a bit too obvious considering the poster that was released a couple of days ago?"

The Fifteen Best Comic Book Movies of All Time! (Nos. 15-11)

April 28, 2008

Cinemabuzz Writer Guy (CWG): It’s Iron Man Week, you sonsofbitches! And to kick the Week off, we have collaborated with the guys over at Comicology and Face Rockery to give you a list of what we think are the Fifteen Best Comic Book Movies of All Time. And if you want to find out how we came up with this list, take a couple minutes to read this first before proceeding with this entry.  Done? Gravy.

Face Rockery Writer Guy (FWG): Let’s get this party started!

Comicology Writer Guy (CWG): I’m so stoked!

CWG: Holy crap, Comicology Writer Guy! We have the same initials!

CWG: That is AWESOME!

CWG: Haha, Face Rockery Writer Guy has different initials! What a loser!

CWG: (Points as Facerockery Writer Guy) HAHAHA! LOOOOOSEEEEERRR!

FWG: Cockheads.

Cinemabuzz: Okay then! Let’s get this show on the road with Numero Fifteen-O!

#15: The Punisher (6.53/10)

http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/2619/punisherue8.jpgCinemabuzz: With a bullet, almost literally, Thomas Jane punishes his way into the gates of The Comic Book Movie Castle with 2004’s The Punisher. Also, count the number of cheesy puns and figures of speech in that last sentence and win a prize! A prize of NOTHING!

Anyway, I thought it wasn’t as bad as many people say it was. I mean come on. Women, children, and the elderly were being gunned down within the first fifteen minutes of the film.

Face Rockery: I like guns as much as the next social retard, but I expected more out of a Punisher movie. Maybe something more gritty. It felt like the usual “They killed his family, and now he’s going to kill THEM!” action movie. The fight with the Russian was awesome, though.

Comicology: The premise of the comic book isn’t exactly as fantastic or as colorful as other characters from the industry, so making a movie out of something that would seem like a cookie-cutter action flick while successfully integrating comic book-y bits of it. Though Thomas Jane did a better job voicing the video game than the movie itself, I’d say Punisher did what it set out to do.

Iron Man Week To Kick Off With A Collaboration with Comicology and Facerockery!

April 27, 2008

We officially kick Iron Man Week off tomorrow with a collaborative article featuring the guys over at Comicology and Face Rockery, where we will be listing down the Fifteen Best Comic Book Movies of All Time!

Tomorrow (Monday), we’ll get the proverbial ball rolling with numbers 15 to 11 on this here site. On Tuesday, head on over to Face Rockery for Part Two of Our List (numbers 10-6). And finally, Comicology will be revealing our Top Five Picks on Wednesday. Cool beans!

And in case you’re wondering as to how we came up with this List, well, we thought that a mathematical and systematic approach couldn’t have been more appropriate.

So what we did was we wrote down all of the comic book movies that we’ve seen and gave them each a score out of ten.

http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/438/listuw1.jpg

As the next step, we shouted each of the films’ titles as we tossed baby goats across a field.

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/2410/tosswa0.jpg

We then added the distance of the Baby Goat Toss to the respective scores we gave the films, and divided that by the number of times I exposed myself to the elderly on the train over the weekend (2 times).

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/4595/traingr8.jpg

So, there.

And if you’re expecting to see American Splendor or Ghost World or A History of Violence on the list, well, sadly, they’re not here. Also, SURPRISE! YOU’RE A DOUCHEBAG! Get off your high horse.

New Dark Knight Poster; Fraser Confirmed for G.I. Joe

April 25, 2008

The Dark Knight’s Joker-centric viral website, whysoserious.com, has been updated with the posting of a gallery of America’s most prominent historical figures, all of whom appear to have been clownisized.

But if you hover and click over the knife on the top right portion, you will be able to access a not-so-secret page featuring the film’s new poster, which I absolutely just love. I just can’t help but wonder how many people will be up in arms with cries of "9/11 much?! Boo!"

http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/7701/darkknightposterwq2.jpg

Because you’ve got to admit, that sure looks a lot like the Twin Towers’ facades after they got hit by those jumbo jets back in 2001.

Anyway, if you look at the bottom part of the gallery page, it appears that we’ll be hearing from The Joker in four days.

ETC’s Text-In Promo: Scientifically Proven to Improve Your Life Two Hundred-Fold

April 24, 2008

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/1025/finalyi8.jpg

Say, how much would a couple of premiere tickets cost these days? 500 bucks if they’re even for sale to begin with? And that’s just a conservative estimate.

Why spend that much when for a mere P2.50, you can join ETC’s Text-In Promo and stand a chance to win not one, but TWO tickets to their movie premieres?

To join, all you have to do is text ETC<space>MOVIES<space>ON and send to 2600. As I mentioned earlier, it only costs P2.50 per text.

ETC is not only offering those who participate in the promo an opportunity to win two (2) tickets to any of their movie premieres, but they will be updating you of their future film screenings through the service as well.

I suppose you can’t expect anything less from THE GREATEST CHANNEL IN THE WORLD, which conveniently releases THE GREATEST MOVIES IN THE WORLD here on our local shores.

For more information, please visit their website at http://www.etc.com.ph/

ETC can be seen on free TV on Ch. 21, and is available from the following providers: Sky Cable (Ch. 16), Dream Satellite (Ch. 27), Destiny Cable (Ch. 30), and Cablelink (Ch. 48).

Hellboy II, Spirit, Dark Knight, Watchmen Updates From NYCC ‘08

April 23, 2008

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/8218/hellboyguylu3.jpg

-More big news broke out over the weekend at the New York Comic Con, and this one involves a major change in the lineup for Hellboy II: The Golden Army. For reasons yet to be disclosed, Thomas Kretschmann has dropped out  of production as the voice of Johann Kraus.

Seth MacFarlane, the creator and primary voice talent of Family Guy and American Dad, has been tapped to replace Kretschmann.

-IGN has an interview up with Eva Mendes, who plays Sand Saref in the big-screen adaptation of Will Eisner’s The Spirit. In the clip, she reveals that she shows her ass in the film.

High fives. High Fives all around.

MAJOR Incredible Hulk Updates from the New York Comic Con

April 22, 2008

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/2297/hulkmovielw7.gif

So there are these two guys that’ll be making special appearances in the new Incredible Hulk movie. I don’t know if you recognize either of them but they normally go by the names "TONY FUCKING STARK" and "LOU FUCKING FERRIGNO."

At the New York Comic Con over this past weekend, the Incredible Hulk panel showed a clip which featured General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt) sitting at a bar, working on a whiskey. A figure then emerges from the shadows, and it’s none other than Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.).

Here’s how their conversation went down, according to the good folks over at IGN who were present at the event:

Stark: "It smells like stale beer in here."

Ross: "You always have such nice suits."

Stark: "I hear you have a little problem."

Dun dun dunnn. This "little problem" is obviously an allusion to our green giant. But at which point during the movie will this scene take place? It hasn’t been confirmed yet but I’m betting that it’ll be shown as bonus footage during or after the end credits. Although, it would be the coolest thing ever if they worked the scenario out during the film itself.

Baroness! Duke! Storm Shadow! Hawk! Ripcord! Cover Girl! Holy Crap!

April 21, 2008

So Spirit Week has officially come to a close, and we’re back to our lame layout. I’ll work on something new and long-term, and we still have that Iron Man Week kickoff in seven days to look forward to.

And to begin this glorious Monday, I’ll give you some two day-old news, which shouldn’t have been news to begin with. See, last Saturday, wwtdd.com scored a bunch of new photos from G.I. Joe, only to have them requested to be removed by Paramount Pictures within hours.

Almost every other site which linked to or had the images also had to take them down.

ALMOST.
