Official G.I Joe Cast Photos!

May 8, 2008

And still no Cobra Commander, dammit! But at least we get an official first look at Breaker, Heavy Duty, a regular-faced Destro, and a masked Storm Shadow.

Here’s a photo Storm Shadow, and like I’ve always wished, with his mask on. He will be played by Korean actor Byung-hun Lee. You can view the hi-res version by visiting Latinoreview.

Here’s one of Christopher Eccleston as James McCullen Destro XXIV. Sadly, his Berrylium Steel mask in nowhere in sight. But at least we get the M.A.R.S. logo! You can view the hi-res version by visiting IESB.

List-O-Rama: The 15 Best and Ass-Kickingest Opening CREDITS Ever (Part 2/3)

May 7, 2008

I’m back for Part Two of the The 15 Best and Ass-Kickingest Opening CREDITS Ever. And in case you missed it, here be Part One.

If there’s one thing you’ll notice with this list, it’s that all of the entries are unique, like how I couldn’t put that Rose McGowan go-go dance from Grindhouse here, since I already have the more memorable Barbarella strippage intro at Number Eleven. And Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre both have great opening credits, but them being similar, only the former made it to the list. I know this isn’t a good example to offer but I didn’t want to give away the rest just yet. So let’s move along.

#10: Superbad (2007)

Great opening with a great song from a great soundtrack of a great movie. Anyone who didn’t start bobbing their heads or tapping their feet when the music hit LOVES TERRORISTS.

Trailer Tuesday: Twilight, The Dark Knight, Indy 4, Hancock

May 6, 2008

I could’ve posted the latter three yesterday but "Trailer Monday" doesn’t sound as spiffy, does it?

Anyway, I woke up today to my sister squealing and running around in her room across the hall. She opened my door and yelled at me like a fucking devil banshee and asked for my help with something on her laptop. I groggily walked to her bedroom to address the task at hand, which turned out to be ripping a flash video off of Myspace. Said video was the teaser trailer for this new movie called Twilight.

It’s based off a string of books by Stephanie Meyer about a small town girl and some vampires, and if my research is correct (and by "research" I mean "asking my sister what in the hell these books are and if she’s sure that she’s not the only one reading this shit"), it’s only second to the Harry Potter series in terms of sales figures for titles geared towards young adolescents.

The movie stars Kristen Stewart (Zathura, Into the Wild) and Robert Pattinson ("Cedric Diggory" in the Harry Potter movies) and is set for a December 12, 2008 release.

List-O-Rama: The 15 Best and Ass-Kickingest Opening CREDITS Ever (Part 1/3)

May 5, 2008

I was actually thinking of working on the Best and Ass-Kickingest Opening SCENES In Movie History, but I decided to go with the more interesting and gravely under-appreciated art form that is the Opening Credits first.

There are multiple ways in which a filmmaker can present his main titles. Some choose to go barebones and show the credits with a little music, while others subtly flash them during the film’s opening scene.

Some deliver an intricate, high-tech, stand-alone sequence which incorporate an array of text and graphics, while others just go for the jugular and present everything in one go: an elaborate intro which shows the credits with some music and visual effects, all while the opening scene takes place. As expected, the movie that tops this list would technically fall under that last category, but you’ll have to stick around until Part Three to find out what that is.

#15: Halloween (1978)

Okay so it’s a pumpkin. Two minutes of nothing but pumpkin. I’m sure that it’s not so hot with you watching it in the comforts of your room right now, probably in daylight.

But imagine yourself hearing that haunting score by John Carpenter for the first time, in a dark theater filled with strangers in the late 70s, with no cellphone or laptop to access Twitter and tell your friends that you are "SCURRED NAO" and that you want to go "HOME NAO" and prove to the world that you are a giant "IDIOT NAO."

Just imagine that kind of horror, kids.

Brand New Incredible Hulk Trailer, Screenshots

May 3, 2008

A new trailer for The Incredible Hulk has surfaced online, and I suppose that this will front Iron Man as it opens across North American theaters today.

What I find odd is that we here in the Philippines were treated to the new Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull trailer before every Iron Man screening, but it was the same Incredible Hulk teaser released a few weeks back which also accompanied it.

Anyway, some cuts in the trailer were fast and furious, and there might have been a couple of things that you missed. So I took the liberty of taking half a dozen screenshots which you might find interesting, starting off with this encounter between our not-so-jolly green giant and Tim Roth (Emil Blonsky/The Abomination).

Review: Iron Man

May 2, 2008

http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/4127/reviewig2.jpg

Last Wednesday, Comicology, Fritzified and I attended the special screening of Iron Man, courtesy of Solar Entertainment and ETC. Not only did we get in without having to pay a dime, but we also got free shampoo. Thanks for the free shampoo!

So this is a review coming from a casual fan. I made the unfortunate (“jackassy”) decision of moving on to trading basketball cards after already having accrued a two hundred-strong comic book collection, which included a couple of Iron Man titles. We ran a bookstore when I was in elementary and we sold pre-owned comics at 10 pesos a pop. It really is such a waste.

Though I’ve discontinued the hobby, I still am immersed in the various mythologies offered by the comic book universe, especially given the more prominent media through which they are disseminated these days, like in TV or in films. (Seriously, am I the only one clawing at the internet’s innards to find a copy of that Nick Fury TV movie starring David Hasselhoff? And would any self-respecting fan even own Batman & Robin and LXG on DVD? Because I do.)

So, yeah. Casual fan here. With no talent in writing, whatsoever.

Here goes.

Jonah Hill In Talks for Transformers 2; Teresa Palmer Confirmed?

May 1, 2008

http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/6863/jonahhillda4.jpg

Jonah Hill, the man with the ass-kickingest (and fanciest) tattoo in all of ass-kicking (and fancy) tattoo history, is in early negotiations to star opposite Shia LaBeouf in the upcoming Transformers 2, according to EW.

You may remember Mr. Hill from a couple of small movies released last year called Superbad and Knocked Up.

IESB received the sequel’s casting breakdowns for its new characters earlier this month, and if that turns out to be legitimate, we can pretty much expect Hill to take on the role of "Chuck." The character is decribed as "19-25 yrs., Sam’s roommate at Princeton. He runs a conspiracy theory website. Funny in an irreverent, edgy way, he is shocked to see his conspiracy theories come to life."
