Donnie Darko Sequel; Arcade Fire To Score New Richard Kelly Film
May 18, 2008The internet has been buzzing this past week over the news that a sequel to Richard Kelly’s 2001 cult hit Donnie Darko is being produced by UK company Velvet Octopus. The good folks over at /Film contacted Kelly’s Darko Entertainment outfit regarding their involvement in the film, and this was Kelly’s reply:
“To set the record straight, here’s a few facts I’d like to share with you all - I haven’t read this script. I have absolutely no involvement with this production, nor will I ever be involved. I have no control over the rights from our original film, and neither I nor my producing partner Sean McKittrick stand to make any money from this film.”
As if that wasn’t bad enough, part two will be retardedly called S. Darko.
Moviesonline.ca has the exclusive teaser poster.

The sequel will follow Donnie’s little sister, Samantha, seven years after the events in the first film, as she and her best friend embark on a road trip, during which they will be plagued by "bizarre visions."
Daveigh Chase (Samara from The Ring movies) will reprise her role as Samantha, while Briana Evigan (Step Up 2 The Streets), Ed Westwick (TV’s Gossip Girl), and Justin Chatwin (Goku in the upcoming Dragonball, War of the Worlds) will co-star.
Simon Crowe from Velvet Octopus spoke to Screendaily.com, and assured us that despite Donnie not being involved (because he’s kinda fucking DEAD), there will be "meteorites and rabbits." Wow. That’s very… comforting.

News On Filipino Sci-Fi Sex and Slaughter Fest "Killdroid"
May 15, 2008There’s this small film that’s been generating a lot of buzz among movie blogs lately, all thanks to this photo which was released by its producers yesterday:

It’s a woman in a short skirt bending over what appears to be a cryogenic chamber, and it definitely caught my attention, in the crotchal area.
So I did a little more research and found one truly cool thing about it, and it’s the fact that this film, Killdroid: A Mechanical Love Affair, is a collaboration between American DVD label Mondo Macabro and Filipino writer-director Rico Maria Ilarde.
Ilarde directed Altar for Cinema One last year, and helmed the "Aquarium" episode of Shake, Rattle and Roll 2K5 in, duh, the year 2K5.
Mondo Macabre is no stranger to Filipino shock exploiters either, having released titles such as Aswang, and the critically-acclaimed Silip: Daughters of Eve. The latter (which stars former Miss Philippines Maria Isabel Lopez, Sarsi Emmanuelle, and Myra Manibog) was even voted in the Top 25 DVD releases of 2007 by Mr. Skin.
The company is also responsible for introducing the now-cult favorite For Y’ur Height Only (which stars 2′9" Filipino action star Weng Weng as Agent 00) to the Western World with its release of the title on DVD in 2005.
Anyway, Twitch received an announcement regarding the film, and it details the movie’s plot:
This is the intriguingly entitled KILLDROID, a collaboration with Philippine-based writer-director Rico Maria Ilarde. The film, described as “a mechanical love affair”, tells of a disturbed Goth schoolgirl who stumbles unwittingly across the remnants of a long abandoned military project designed to create an army of android killers from the processed bodies of dead soldiers. The girl takes on the mysteriously beautiful Killdroid as a lover, only to discover, too late, that its insatiable sexual appetite is inexorably linked with a need for slaughter.
Impressionable goth school girl? Killer robot android with a sex addiction? COUNT ME THE FUCK IN.

Max Payne, BioShock, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto Movie Updates! Hot Damn!
May 14, 2008Wipe that shit-eating grin off your face because it’s Wednesday! And you know what that means! Do you? Because I don’t!
First off, Filmschoolrejects.com has new photos from the set of Max Payne, which stars Mark Wahlberg as the title character and Mila Kunis as Mona Sax.

That last one is obviously an overhead shot of dead bodies, which would come as no surprise since this film, after all, was based on a game where you shoot people and stuff.
From my end, I’d put the body count at nine: one for each blood stain (that makes 7), another one being at the upper right side (with the guy standing over it), and the last one on the upper left side, by the boxes. Considering its size, it’s either a midget or a puppy, and given the lack of a blood stain, said midget or puppy could very well have been strangled or poisoned. Either way, it’s awesome.
You can view the rest of the photos by clicking here.
The film co-stars Beau Bridges (TV’s Stargate: SG-1 and My Name Is Earl), Chris O’ Donnell (Batman Forever, Vertical Limit), Ludacris (2 Fast 2 Furious, Crash), Donal Logue (TV’s The Knights of Prosperity and Grounded For Life), and Amaury Nolasco (Transformers, TV’s Prison Break), and is set to be released on October 17 later this year.

Captain America’s Shield Was In Frickin’ Iron Man!
May 12, 2008And apparently, the serum used to create Captain America will be a significant plot point in the upcoming The Incredible Hulk.
But first, the shield. According to the guys over at First Showing and Slashfilm, it appears right around the 90-minute mark in Iron Man, as Pepper Potts walks in on Tony Stark dis-armoring in his lab, after the incident between him and Rhodey’s fighter jets. See if you can spot it in this animated GIF:

And here’s a clearer photo, courtesy of First Showing:

"HOLY CRAP," right? But wait, there’s more!
Jonah Hill, Teresa Palmer Out of Transformers 2; Isabel Lucas In?
May 9, 2008Director Michael Bay has confirmed that talks between Jonah Hill and the producers for Transformers 2 have broken down, and that Australian actress Teresa Palmer was never even considered for a role.
Good thing I ended the subject of my earlier entry with a question mark, because I would have made a complete fool of myself had I jumped to conclusions. Because, you know, the last thing I’d want is to not be taken seriously as a blogger/reporter.
Also, here’s a photo of a mustachioed Dakota Fanning with a pig.

Anyway, in keeping with the trend of friggin’ hot Australian women with regard to the Transformers movies (Rachael Taylor in the first, Teresa Palmer being rumored for part two), it appears that another actress from Down Under, Isabel Lucas, has been cast in the sequel.

Speaking of things "down under"… Nah, nevermind. I guess one really can’t go further downhill from Dakota Fanning with a mustache.
By the way, Ms. Lucas is a relative newcomer to the business, having only a regular role in the Australian soap, Home and Away under her belt. She will, however, star next to Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill, and Willem Dafoe in the upcoming futuristic vampire movie, Daybreakers.
Official G.I Joe Cast Photos!
May 8, 2008And still no Cobra Commander, dammit! But at least we get an official first look at Breaker, Heavy Duty, a regular-faced Destro, and a masked Storm Shadow.
Here’s a photo Storm Shadow, and like I’ve always wished, with his mask on. He will be played by Korean actor Byung-hun Lee. You can view the hi-res version by visiting Latinoreview.

Here’s one of Christopher Eccleston as James McCullen Destro XXIV. Sadly, his Berrylium Steel mask in nowhere in sight. But at least we get the M.A.R.S. logo! You can view the hi-res version by visiting IESB.
Jonah Hill In Talks for Transformers 2; Teresa Palmer Confirmed?
May 1, 2008
Jonah Hill, the man with the ass-kickingest (and fanciest) tattoo in all of ass-kicking (and fancy) tattoo history, is in early negotiations to star opposite Shia LaBeouf in the upcoming Transformers 2, according to EW.
You may remember Mr. Hill from a couple of small movies released last year called Superbad and Knocked Up.
IESB received the sequel’s casting breakdowns for its new characters earlier this month, and if that turns out to be legitimate, we can pretty much expect Hill to take on the role of "Chuck." The character is decribed as "19-25 yrs., Sam’s roommate at Princeton. He runs a conspiracy theory website. Funny in an irreverent, edgy way, he is shocked to see his conspiracy theories come to life."
Iron Man Opens TODAY; Clips from the Set
April 30, 2008
First of all, the third and final part of Cinemabuzz, Face Rockery, and Comicology’s list of The Fifteen Best Comic Book Movies of All Time is now online! And you can read it by clicking here.
And in case you missed it, here are Part One and Part Two of our List.
Now, onto Iron Man. It opens in Philippine theaters today, and Comicology and myself were invited to tonight’s block screening at Glorietta by Solar Entertainment and ETC. So we’ll have those spoiler-free reviews up by tomorrow.
I’m kind of in a hurry because I need to get a wax (it’s my pre-movie-watchnig habit okay), so I’ll simply be treating you to a couple of clips from the making of Iron Man.
Jon Favreau, the director, tours the set on his Segway in these two videos, so that’s bound to be awesome.
Even More New Dark Knight Posters, Trailer to Debut On Sunday, I Weep.
April 29, 2008Before anything else, Part Two of Cinemabuzz, Face Rockery, and Comicology’s list of The Fifteen Best Comic Book Movies of All Time is now online! And you can read it by clicking here.
And in case you missed it, here’s Part One of our List.
Anyway, here’s the latest update from the slew of online games by The Joker (kayfabe, of course) on his website Why So Serious?
Much to the chagrin of nerdier people who actually took the time to participate in intricate viral campaigns than a guy who simply chooses to write about it, the new trailer for The Dark Knight apparently wouldn’t be debuting until Sunday. Volunteers were asked to do meet up in several cities to (I suppose) perform certain tasks which (I hope) involved killing hobos with a hammer.
After all the hullabaloo, they were led to this portion of the website, which teases the debut of a new trailer this coming Sunday.

In other Dark Knight news, Filmschoolrejects, Omelete, and The Bad and The Ugly have scored a barrage of new posters for the movie, though I seriously doubt the legitimacy of these.
They go from "That’s kind of cool but isn’t that a bit too obvious considering the poster that was released a couple of days ago?"
